Discovery Launches Its Own Streaming Service Called Discovery Plus

The streaming scene is plenty saturated as it is. Despite this, a new challenger, Discovery, just announced that it is stepping into the ring. Depending on where you are, it may already be available too.

The streaming service will also have a very simple name of Discovery Plus. It bills itself as “the definitive non-fiction, real life subscription service”. Which makes sense, as the company is mainly known for its documentaries of various sorts.

In addition to content from its existing channels, it will also feature original content. These range from 90 Day Fiance spinoffs to Route 66 that sees comedian Kevin Hart hosting a travel show along the eponymous Route 66.

As mentioned earlier, Discovery Plus is already available in some regions. Specifically, it is already available in the UK and Ireland, though its partner Sky. Elsewhere, it will be launching in the US starting 4 January 2021, and across 21 markets in the whole of the year. This includes parts of Asia, but no specific mention if Malaysia is part of the list.

As for pricing, Discovery Plus will cost US$4.99 a month, or US$6.99 a month for an ad-free subscription. If the service makes its way here, chances are the prices will not deviate too much, but we’ll have to see if it does make it here in the first place.
