KOTA KINABALU: The Wildlife Rescue Unit (WRU) set up a trap at Kampung Takuli in Beaufort to capture a 11-foot long crocodile on July 12.

The WRU posted on its Facebook account that villagers of Kampung Takuli had lodged a complaint that a crocodile was seen on several occasions along a river at the village.

Acting on the report, the WRU established a huge crocodile trap on July 9 and began monitoring the area.

On July 12, one of the villagers, Henry Jonik Jacob, contacted the WRU to inform them that a crocodile had entered the trap.

The WRU dispatched a team to the area  and transferred the reptile to the Wildlife Rescue Centre in Potuki, Penampang.

WRU praised Henry Jonik Jacob for his quick action and said that the crocodile could have injured people, particularly children.

In the post, WRU also stated that ‘It is raining crocodiles at Sabah’s West Coast.’

This is possibly because of the several cases of crocodiles being captured in the last several days and weeks.

On July 9, the WRU caught a six-foot crocodile lurking at a residential area in Luyang.

And on June 14, a 15-foot crocodile was captured at Pulau Gaya which is a 20-minute boat ride from the state capital.
