KUCHING (June 16): Sarawak today recorded six Covid-19 deaths but new cases took a dip from 718 to 570, said the State Disaster Management Committee.
It said in its Covid-19 daily update that the latest fatalities brought the state’s death toll to 364 while cumulative number of infections rose to 57,475.
“All death cases today were men, the youngest being a 45-year-old man from Kuching with a history of hypertension, heart disease, diabetes and dyslipidemia,” it said.
It also said that this case was one of four fatalities recorded in Kuching where the three other victims were aged 50, 68 and 73 respectively.
“Another two deaths were recorded in Bau involving a 76-year-old man with no history of comorbidities and in Mukah where the 59-year-old victim had a history of hypertension, heart disease, diabetes and kidney disease,” it said.
On the new cases, the committee said 318 or 55.78 per cent were detected in four districts namely Kuching, Mukah, Sibu and Bintulu.
Kuching topped the list with 98 cases followed by Mukah (92), Sibu (82), Bintulu (46), Song (31), Sri Aman (31), Miri (25), Sarikei (23), Pakan (23), Serian (23), Matu (21), Kapit (16), Bau (15), and Tatau (10).
Another 13 districts reported single-digit cases namely Lundu (7), Telang Usan (4), Tanjung Manis (3), Kanowit (3), Marudi (3), Bukit Mabong (3), Selangau (3), Tebedu (2), Beluru (2), Julau (1), Meradong (1), Asajaya (1) and Samarahan (1).
SDMC said the new cases consisted of 67 individuals who had shown signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection when screenings were conducted.
“There were also 483 cases detected from individuals who were instructed to be quarantined at quarantine centres,” it added.
It gave a summary of the cases, noting that 446 were detected from screenings of individuals with contact to positive cases; 55 from other screenings at health facilities; 36 cases from screenings of individuals from existing active clusters; 36 cases from screenings of symptomatic individuals at health facilities; and one Import B case involving an individual who had returned from another state in the country.
Meanwhile, 485 cases had recovered today of which 149 were discharged from Bintulu Hospital and the quarantine and low-risk patients treatment centre (PKRC) under Bintulu Hospital; 112 from Miri Hospital and the PKRC under Miri Hospital; 97 from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and the PKRC under SGH; 39 from Sibu Hospital and the PKRC under Sibu Hospital; 36 from Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC Sri Aman; 23 from Kapit Hospital and PKRC under Kapit Hospital; 17 from Sarikei Hospital and the PKRC under Sarikei Hospital; four from PKRC Serian; four from PKRC Betong; two from PKRC Lawas and two from PKRC Mukah.
“The total number of recoveries in the state have now increased to 47,211 or 82.14 per cent out of the overall cases,” said the committee.
It also said that 9,780 patients were still being isolated and treated at hospitals and PKRCs throughout the state, where 2,872 were being treated at SGH; 1,559 at Sibu Hospital and PKRC Sibu; 1,510 at Bintulu Hospital; 1,367 at Miri Hospital; 885 at Kapit Hospital and PKRC Kapit; 510 at Sri Aman Hospital; 462 at Sarikei Hospital; 336 at PKRC Mukah; 149 at PKRC Serian; 111 at PKRC Betong; 15 at PKRC Lawas; and four at Limbang Hospital.
A total of 570 new person under investigation (PUI) cases were also reported with none pending lab test result.
