PETALING JAYA: The mandatory Covid-19 quarantine period has been reduced from 14 days to 10, beginning tomorrow, health director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah announced today.
The shortened period applies to travellers returning from abroad and close contacts of Covid-19 patients undergoing observation.
The 10-day quarantine period has been applied in Britain, Germany and Belgium while France has shortened the quarantine to 7 days, he said.
Noor Hisham said the shorter period was in line with latest clinical reports from around the world, which showed that the infection rate was highest in the first week after exposure to the virus. “The risk of post-quarantine infection will decrease over a period of quarantine time,” he said.
The health ministry decision follows a review of the quarantine period that was announced on Dec 4.
