KUCHING (Aug 25): Sarawak has recorded five deaths from Covid-19 today, including that of a 99-year-old woman, as the number of new cases rose to 1,667, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
The 99-year-old woman, who tested positive for Covid-19 on Aug 23, died in the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) today.
SDMC in its daily update on the pandemic, said the woman had a history of high blood pressure and diabetes
Another fatality in Kuching today involved a 44-year-old man.
“The body of a 44-year-old man from Kuching was brought to Sarawak General Hospital and he was confirmed to have contracted Covid-19 on Aug 20. The deceased did not have any comorbidities,” it said.
The third death reported today was a 58-year-old man from Serian who tested positive on July 31 and died at SGH. He also had high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and chronic kidney disease.
SDMC said the fourth death involved a 63-year-old man from Samarahan who was tested positive on Aug 22. The man, who also died at SGH, had suffered from high blood pressure, diabetes, chronic liver and kidney disease, as well as heart disease.
The fifth death involved a 64-year-old man from Sibu, who suffered from Crohn’s disease. The deceased was tested positive on Aug 22 and he died at Sibu Hospital.
With the latest deaths, Sarawak’s Covid-19 death toll has risen to 508.
On the new cases today, SDMC said 99.88 per cent of the 1,667 cases were patients under Category One with no symptoms and Category Two with mild symptoms.
Kuching had the most cases at 620, followed by Samarahan (151), Bau (139), Sibu (125), Lundu (118), Serian (71), Pusa (61), Bintulu (53), Belaga (53), Mukah (44), Selangau (38), Song (33), Simunjan (26), Sri Aman (25), Subis (21), Miri (16), Kapit (16), Tatau (16) and Tebedu (11).
The other districts that recorded single digit cases were Asajaya (8), Beluru (5), Sarikei (3), Sebauh (3), Betong (2), Matu (2), Kanowit (2), Telang Usan (2), and one each in Lawas, Limbang and Saratok.
The cumulative Covid-19 cases in Sarawak is now 103,048.
