Covid-19: 464 new cases in Sarawak today, no deaths

KUCHING (July 28): Kuching continued to record the majority of positive Covid-19 cases today with 184 cases out of the total 464 recorded in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative total of positive cases to 75,211, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

No deaths were reported.

In its Covid-19 daily update, SDMC said other districts that recorded two-digit new cases were Serian with 79, Samarahan (66), Meradong (21), Bintulu (19), Bau (16), Sibu (15), and Tebedu and Tatau 10 each.

Fourteen districts recorded one-digit new cases. They were Asajaya (9), Dalat (7), Lundu (6), Miri (5), Mukah (4), Kapit (3), Saratok (2), Telang Usan (2), and one new case each in Simunjan, Betong, Song, Pusa, Selangau, and Beluru.

The remaining 17 districts did not record any new case for the day.

SDMC said 349 of the new cases today were detected from screenings of individuals with contact to positive cases; 17 from screenings of individuals from existing active clusters; 42 from screenings of symptomatic individuals at health facilities; and 56 from other screenings at health facilities.

The committee said that there were 278 recovered Covid-19 patients who have been discharged from hospitals and quarantine and low-risk patients treatment centres (PKRC) across the state.

“A total of 144 were discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and PKRC under SGH, 31 from PKRC Serian, 29 from Miri Hospital and PKRC Miri, 25 from PKRC Betong, 13 from PKRC Unimas, 12 from Sibu Hospital and PKRC Sibu, 10 from Sarikei Hospital and PKRC Sarikei, 10 from Bintulu Hospital and PKRC Bintulu, 3 from PKRC Mukah, and one from Kapit Hospital.

“The total number of recoveries in the state have now increased to 69,828 or 92.84 per cent out of the overall cases,” it said.

There are still a total of 4,754 patients still warded and under medical supervision at hospitals and PKRC throughout the state, with 30 cases in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 12 on intubation.

As for Person-Under-Surveillance (PUS), there were 143 individuals who have checked into designated quarantine centres for their compulsory quarantine today. This brings the total of current PUS to 3,754 individuals at 103 hotels and non-hotel quarantine centres statewide.

To-date, those who have completed their quarantine period numbered at 130,775.
