KUCHING (June 5): The recent Gawai Dayak celebration has been linked to one of four new Covid-19 clusters in the state, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said today.

The committee said that the Skim B Cluster in Meradong involved a longhouse and the cluster was a result of communal slaughtering and cutting of pork on May 27 in preparation for the Gawai celebration there.

“Out of a total 78 individuals screened, 28 were found positive while 45 tested negative. The remaining five are still pending lab test results.

“All positive cases were referred to the Sarikei Hospital and were admitted to the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) there,” SDMC said in their daily Covid-19 update statement.
