MIRI (May 16): Miri City Council (MCC) is urged to improve recreational parks under its jurisdiction and maintain public facilities properly to avoid any untoward incident.

Democratic Action Party (DAP) Miri Youth Chief Peter Hee said in a press statement yesterday that he had received several complaints about uneven surface which endangers visitors at a recreational park in Desa Senadin 2D.

“When we went to check the site, the complaint is true,” said Hee.

The park built at the cost of RM100,000 and monitored by MCC should have been built according to specifications so visitors can use the facilities with peace of mind.

“The uneven floor of the basketball court could lead to players falling leading to knee injury which could be serious. It is important to improve the facility to the specific standard for the safety of users,” he said.

Hee also noticed rubbish thrown indiscriminately around parks which is an eyesore and spoils the pleasant view of beautiful parks. He called on the public to practice civic mindedness and take care of public facilities.
