Burn the SDs claiming support and move on, Reformasi group tells Anwar

It is clear that Anwar Ibrahim does not have the support of the majority in the Dewan Rakyat with the allocations for 22 ministries having been passed.

PETALING JAYA: A pro-Anwar Ibrahim group has asked the PKR president to “burn” the statutory declarations (SDs) of support for him, move on and focus on the next general election (GE15).

Otai Reformasi secretary Abdul Razak Ismail said this was because the opposition failed to garner enough support to oppose the budget allocations for 22 ministries in the Dewan Rakyat.

He added that Pakatan Harapan (PH) should give up hope of wresting Putrajaya from the Perikatan Nasional-led government through the support of MPs.

“When PH failed to get 15 MPs to support a request for a bloc vote on the federal budget at the policy stage, the perception was that the game was already over.

“It became clearer when the allocations for 22 ministries were passed one by one at the committee stage,” he said.

Razak said Otai Reformasi members are also asking when will PH stop expecting people to crossover and support Anwar despite his claim that he had sufficient support to form the government.

Last September, the Port Dickson MP claimed he had secured the support of enough MPs for a convincing majority in the Dewan Rakyat.

But after an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, Istana Negara revealed the opposition leader did not present a list of the MPs who supported him.

Razak said SDs were no guarantee of support as elected representatives could change their stand at any time and this was evident in the recent Perak political crisis.

“Anwar should just burn the SDs and go down to the states to move on,” he said, adding PH needs to work together with other opposition parties including Warisan to win the election.

He also urged PH to strengthen ties with other opposition parties, especially at a time when Umno and PPBM are squabbling, something he expects will continue until GE15.
