KUCHING (June 23): The countdown for this year’s Borneo Jazz Festival (BJF) has begun, with the virtual journey set to kick off this Friday (June 25).

With the daily programme running from 6pm to 7.30pm, BJF 2021 would go on for three days, serving up a combination of flashbacks of past musical acts, original pre-recorded sessions and also interviews with renowned jazz musicians from Sarawak and around the world.

Viewers would be entertained by a string of jazz performances by various artistes including Clinton Jerome Chua, O-Ha Soul Band, Nisa Addina, Borneo Jazz Talent Search 2018 winner Ta’Dan, and the ‘Prince of Borneo’ himself, Pete Kallang.

The virtual journey would also feature exclusive interviews with Singapore’s ‘King of Swing’ and Asia’s ‘Jazz Superstar’ Jeremy Monteiro; Dave Brewer of ‘Dave and the Doodaddies’; and John Hammond.

Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chief executive officer Sharzede Datu Salleh Askor, remarked: “Covid-19 has shown us how important digital and social media have been for artistes to reach out to their audience and maintain their fan-following throughout the pandemic.

“With BJF 2021 now bringing the ‘Virtual Journey’ into people’s homes through its own ‘Borneo Jazz Festival’ platform, as well as TVS (Astro Channel 122) and Shopee Live, there would be more new audiences comprising jazz-lovers locally and those from around the world.”

At the website, registered viewers can watch the whole show and also engage in conversations with other online users.

They would also be eligible for many BJF 2021 giveaways offered throughout the three days, where they could bring home free tickets to next year’s events, discount offerings at selected hotels, as well as attractive merchandise items.

STB is the official BJF 2021 organiser, with Grab being the official delivery partner and Shopee as its official e-commerce partner.

“Those who register are able to access the festival and would be able to order food via Grab and receive discounts using a special promo code.

Via Shopee, where the BJF 2021 shows would be streamed via ‘Shopee Live’, STB has opened an official e-store featuring various merchandise items such as the ‘BJF Limited Edition’ T-shirts, as well as the limited-edition ‘Batik Linut’ and printed batik face masks.
