KUCHING (June 4): A bird’s nest shop at Jalan Muara Tabuan here today became the centre of a new cluster dubbed the Jalan Muara Cluster with 15 positive Covid-19 cases.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) statement today, the workplace cluster was believed to have originated from the community before infecting a shop worker. Out of the 108 individuals screened, 60 were negative, and 33 awaiting lab results.

All those who tested positive were referred to the Sarawak General Hospital and admitted into the hospital and Kuching District quarantine and low-risk patients treatment centre (PKRC).

This new cluster is not to be confused with another cluster with a similar name, the Muara Tabuan Cluster also in Kuching, which involved a factory. It was declared on May 31 with 152 cases.

At the same time, SDMC also announced the end of two clusters after not recording any new positive cases in the last 28 days. They are the Sungai Banus Cluster in Selangau and Block D Jalan Pending Cluster in Kuching.

Meanwhile, the state has 77 active clusters, with 11 continuing to report 39 new Covid-19 cases today.
