After meeting with Anwar, Sng to stay as interim Sarawak PKR chief

PETALING JAYA: Larry Sng said he will remain as interim Sarawak PKR chairman, after meeting with party president Anwar Ibrahim yesterday.

“Our discussion touched on suitable Dayak leaders in PKR Sarawak, PKR Sarawak’s autonomy, framework for the selection of candidates for election and our position on working with parties outside of PH,” said Sng in a Facebook post tonight.

“We managed to reach an understanding and I shall remain as chairman for the interim.

“I appreciate the support and full confidence that the president and PKR Sarawak have in me to lead the party in the coming state election.”

The Julau MP announced he was resigning as the state’s party chief on Tuesday.

However, Sng’s resignation was unanimously rejected by Sarawak PKR’s leadership council – following which Sng said he would decide his next move after meeting Anwar.

Sng previously said it was in the best interest of PKR Sarawak to be led by a Dayak leader ahead of the forthcoming state election as Dayaks were the majority in Sarawak, yet their areas were the poorest and most underdeveloped.

He was appointed party chairman in March to replace Selangau MP Baru Bian who quit PKR during the “Sheraton Move” which resulted in PH being toppled and Muhyiddin Yassin becoming prime minister.
