KUCHING (June 25): Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has pledged that individuals born in Sarawak who do not have identification cards would not be left out of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
He told a press conference today that those without MyKads should approach their respective community leaders and they would still be vaccinated.
“If you do not have an IC (MyKad), we will still give you the vaccine because the community leaders know you’re born here. You just need a clarification from the community leader,” he said after visiting the Longi industrial Covid-19 Vaccine Administration Centre (PPV) at Samajaya High Tech Park here.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas concurred by pointing out that the state had established a mechanism to reach out to individuals who did not possess a MyKad.
Uggah added the state will expand its vaccination programme once industrial PPVs had completed inoculations.
“After this, we will go to the plantation companies,” he said.
Abang Johari extended his appreciation to all volunteers who had come forward to help Sarawak accelerate the vaccination process.
He also thanked all Sarawakians who had responded encouragingly to the vaccination programme.
The chief minister also emphasised the need to continue taking precautions such as wearing a face mask even after vaccination.
“I have been given the two doses and I am still wearing a face mask. We need to practise self-discipline and also maintain physical distancing. This is the only way for us to fight Covid-19,” he added.
