SIBU (July 10): A total of 1,000 doses of vaccine will be administered during a one-day mobile vaccination programme at Medan Hotel (behind Medan Mall) here today.

The programme is jointly organised by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong branch and KPJ Specialist Medical Centre here as part of its CSR project, with the support of Ministry of Health.

KPJ Sibu’s medical director Dr Wong Chya Wei said the programme was initially planned for two days, but Sunday’s vaccination has to be postponed due to vaccine issue, arising from logistics problem.

“We will administer 1,000 doses on Saturday. The original plan was to administer another 1,000 (doses) on Sunday but due to unavailability of vaccine, the Sunday programme has to be postponed,” he told a press conference via zoom yesterday, which was also attended by SUPP Dudong branch chairman Wong Ching Yong and Councillor Jenny Ting.

Dr Wong also said the vaccination programme in Pulau Li Hua here scheduled for July 17 and 18 has been postponed until further notice, pending availability of vaccine from the ministry.

He said 4,000 names had been collected for the vaccination programme today and at Pulau Li Hua next weekend.

Meanwhile, Ching Yong said they would not accept any walk-in for today’s vaccination.

“If there is any need for standby vaccination, we will notify the recipients individually,” he said.

He advised the remaining 3,000 individuals who have submitted their names not to be unduly worried as they would be given the vaccine, most likely to be held at Catholic High School (vaccination centre).

Dr Wong, meanwhile said the KPJ vaccination programme would be relocated to Catholic High School hall, starting July 12, in order to vaccinate more people.

He said the vaccination capacity would be increased to 1,000 doses daily at the school from 400 doses at their premises previously.

The vaccination centre (PPV) at the school opens from 8am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday.
