MPs under quarantine can attend Parliament but PPEs a must, says Takiyuddin

MPs under quarantine may need to wear personal protection equipment, like this health official, to attend Parliament.

KUALA LUMPUR: MPs currently under home quarantine can attend Parliament once sittings resume but they will have to wear personal protective equipment (PPEs), says de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan.

Speaking to reporters after a PAS event, Takiyuddin said the MPs would also have to sit in a specially designated area.

Currently, he said, three MPs are undergoing home quarantine after coming into contact with Covid-19 positive patients.

They are Health Minister Dr Adham Baba (Tenggara), Human Resources Minister M Saravanan (Tapah) and P Prabakaran (Batu).

Takiyuddin, the PAS secretary-general, said the MPs would be allowed to attend Dewan Rakyat sittings if they wanted to vote on budget allocations.

“Yes, they can come, but they have to wear full PPEs to enter the Dewan Rakyat. We will also seat them in a special area,” he said after a dialogue with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang at the party’s headquarters.

On another matter, Hadi said they agreed with a proposal from PPBM secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin on the formation of a grand coalition to face the next general election (GE15).

“So far, most of the leadership agrees with the idea.

“To make this a reality may take a bit of time, more so when we do not know when GE15 will be held.”

Previously, Hamzah had proposed a grand coalition, comprising Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional, and Gabungan Parti Sarawak, to face the next general election.

However, Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin had rejected the idea.
