KOTA KINABALU: A total of 7,330 (98.93%) out of the 7,409 Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) candidates in Sabah who sat for the examination last year achieved full pass.

At the same time, 72 candidates attained a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.00 or straight As in 2020, as compared to only 51 candidates in 2019.

State Education Department director Datuk Dr Mistirine Radin said that the new accomplishment had outdone Sabah’s STPM performance in 2019 whereby 6,956 (98.86 percent) out of the 7,036 candidates sitting for the examination achieved full pass.

“This means there is an improvement in the percentage attainment for the state by 0.07 percent,” she said in a statement on Thursday.

She also said that the Cumulative Grade Point Average for Sabah in 2020 was about 2.71 while in 2019, it was 2.67.

“This also shows an improvement by about 0.04 grade marks,” she said.

She also said that there were 345 candidates with 5P last year as compared to only 308 candidates in 2019.

The number of candidates with 4P last year were 4,980 while in 2019, there were 4,614 candidates. There were less candidates achieving 3P, 2P and 1P last year as compared to 2019.

Dr Mistirine also said that there were 21 STPM subjects that were being enrolled by candidates in Sabah.
“Out of the 21 subjects, nine subjects had improved performance,” she said.

The subjects were Pengajian Am, Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Arab, Literature in English, Kesusteraan Melayu Komunikatif, Syariah, Usuluddin, Geografi and Perakaunan.

She also said that 58 schools in Sabah attained 100 percent passing rate in 2020.
