PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has recorded 959 Covid-19 cases and five deaths in the past 24 hours.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,068 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 65,124.
In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the 959 cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 76,265.
Meanwhile, the five deaths bring the toll to 393.
There are currently 10,748 active cases with 127 receiving intensive care, of which 61 require respiratory assistance.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases today with 277, of which 78 were from existing clusters. A total of 76 cases were from close contact screenings, 122 from other screenings and one was imported. Selangor’s cases made up 28.9% of today’s overall total.
Sabah had the second-highest number of cases with 203, of which 106 were from close contact screenings. Thirty-seven cases were from existing clusters and 60 from other screenings. Sabah’s cases made up 21.2% of today’s overall total.
Kuala Lumpur had 129 cases, with 79 from existing clusters, 22 from close contact screenings, 23 from other screenings and five imported cases. Kuala Lumpur’s cases made up 13.5% of today’s overall total.
Other states and federal territories with new cases reported today were Pahang (119), Johor (100), Negeri Sembilan (33), Perak (33), Penang (29), Kelantan (17) and Kedah (16). Melaka had two cases while Labuan had one.
Of today’s cases, 27 came from prison and temporary detention centre clusters, the bulk of which were from the Tembok prison cluster (23 cases) in Kedah.
Of today’s five deaths, two were in Sabah, two in Johor and one in Kuala Lumpur. All were Malaysians. They were aged between 60 and 82, and four of them had a history of chronic illnesses.
Six of today’s 959 cases were imported.
