KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 244 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, with two new clusters in Kota Belud.
Spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said in a statement on July 7, both clusters in Kota Belud – Kluster Siasai Dundau and Kluster Pintasan are community-related.
“Kluster Siasai Dundau involves community infection in three districts. The index case was a 24-year-old woman from Kg Siasai Dundau who tested positive on June 28 at UMS Hospital.
“Following active detection and contact screening of 132 individuals, 34 more positive cases were detected by the Ministry of Health, including 11 new cases recorded today, bringing the cumulative number of positive cases to 47,” said Masidi.
He added of the total, 11 cases were registered in Kota Kinabalu and one case in Penampang.
All positive cases for this particular cluster were referred to hospitals for further treatment and isolation at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Kota Belud. Close contacts of the case have also been given quarantine orders for segregation.
Meanwhile, Kluster Pintasan Kota Belud was detected at Kota Belud Hospital, where a 35-year-old woman from Kg Taun Gusi Keranjangan tested positive for Covid-19 on June 30 after experiencing symptoms for two days.
Based on investigation, the index case was believed to have contracted infection from the community while visiting families in Kg Pintasan on June 25.
“Active detection and screening of 34 contacts found 17 more individuals who tested positive, including eight new cases today, making a cumulative total of 18 cases.
“All 18 of these positive cases were referred to hospital for further treatment and isolation at the PKRC in Kota Belud. Meanwhile, all close contacts of the index case have also been given quarantine instructions for segregation,” said Masidi.
As of Wednesday, Sabah recorded 71,189 cases in total.
