KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 242 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, 99 of which came from the state capital alone.
Sabah’s official Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said 66 of the cases in Kota Kinabalu were from existing clusters while the other 33 cases were detected through other types of screenings.
“Fifty-one of the cases were from the Tembok Cluster while the Ocean Blue Cluster, Coral Cluster and Tanjung Aru Baru Cluster recorded five cases each,” said Masidi in a statement.
He explained that the Tembok Cluster originated from the Kepayan Prison Cluster while the Ocean Blue Cluster and Coral Cluster were caused by offshore workers.
Meanwhile, Tawau, Kota Belud and Kunak recorded 20 cases each on Wednesday.
Masidi, who is also State Local Government and Housing Minister, added that 11 districts saw an increase in new cases while 10 districts underwent a decrease.
“A total of nine districts registered zero cases, namely Beluran, Telupid, Kinabatangan, Tongod, Ranau, Putatan, Sipitang, Tenom and Tambunan,” he said.
Masidi added that the state had also identified one new cluster in Beaufort on Wednesday, dubbed as the Limbawang Cluster, which has 30 cases.
It is believed that the cluster was caused by a funeral ceremony at Kg Gelilia Padas Damit on June 20.
The index case involved a 35-year-old man from Kg Kelabu who experienced fever since June 19.
“Sabah recorded three Covid-19 deaths on Wednesday, two in Kota Belud and one in Tawau,” disclosed Masidi.
