PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 1,937 Covid-19 cases and nine deaths in the past 24 hours.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 911 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 68,084.
In a statement, Noor Hisham said the 1,937 cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 82,246.
Meanwhile, the nine deaths bring the toll to 411.
A total of 13,751 people are still being treated, with 121 of them in the intensive care unit and 66 requiring respiratory assistance.
Noor Hisham said only two of today’s cases were imported.
Selangor reported the highest number of cases today with 823, followed by Sabah (429) and KL (238).
Noor Hisham said most of the cases in Selangor were from existing clusters and close contact screenings.
Of today’s cases, 725 came from prison and temporary detention centre clusters, namely the Jalan Harapan prison cluster (565 cases), Rumah Merah (112 cases), Tembok cluster (43), and the Seberang Perai prison cluster (five).
Other states and federal territories with new cases reported today were Johor (105), Penang (102), Pahang (79), Perak (62), Negeri Sembilan (49), Kedah (16), Melaka (15), Labuan (11), Terengganu (6), Sarawak (one) and Kelantan (one).
On the nine deaths, Noor Hisham said they involved eight men and one woman. Of the deceased, seven are Malaysians and two are foreign nationals.
The deaths were recorded in Johor, Sabah, Penang and Selangor. They were aged between 33 and 84, and all seven Malaysians had a history of chronic illnesses.
One of the two foreign nationals was a disabled.
