KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 166 new Covid-19 cases bringing the cumulative total in the state to 67,707 with two deaths in Tawau on Monday.
Kota Kinabalu recorded the highest increase with 44 new cases.
The hike is attributed to continued screening, including the Coral cluster which added two new cases, Samedra cluster with 15 cases and 18 cases from close contact screening, six cases of symptom screening and three from other cases.
In total, 11 districts in Sabah experienced an increase in cases on Monday.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun said in his daily Covid-19 statement that nine districts recorded one digit hike in cases, while two other districts, namely Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu recorded a two-digit increase in the cases.
Sandakan recorded 16 new cases on Monday, while Kota Kinabalu had 44 new cases with 17 from cluster screening.
“However, nine districts in Sabah recorded a drop in the number of cases. Seven districts achieved a one-digit drop while two districts, namely Kunak (-20) and Keningau (-15) experienced two-digit drops,” he said.
Eight districts registered zero cases in Sabah. They are Beluran, Telupid, Kalabakan, Ranau, Putatan, Kuala Penyu and Tambunan.
Masidi also said that the assumption derived from the new cases showed that there were still people who flouted the standard operating procedure (SOP), despite the various calls made by the government.
“The public is urged to stay at home and for those who work, they need to limit their movement because the new cases are dependent on the community’s adherence to the SOP,” he said.
Masidi added that there are two new clusters in Sabah – the Samedra Cluster which involves workers on the oil platform FPSO KIKEH, and the Serundun Baru cluster in Tawau which is related to a birthday party which was attended by family members on June 12.
Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) is enforced at Blok 11 Kampung Titingan and Batu 7 Jalan Tingat in Tawau from June 23 to July 6; Kampung Ejuk Kota Belud from June 23 to July 6; and Kampung Warisan Kota Kinabalu also from June 23 to July 6.
A total of 265 patients were discharged on Monday bringing the number of people recovering from the illness to 65,238 in Sabah.
