SIBU (June 25): Police last night slapped 12 youngsters with a total of RM4,000 compound for violating the Movement Control Order (MCO) standard operating procedure (SOP).

According to Sibu Police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, the youngsters ages between 15 and 21 years old were found gathering at Jalan Punai around 8pm, suspected of carrying out illegal motorcycle racing.

“They intended to do racing, and previously they were seen racing. However when our mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) unit came earlier, they managed to escape.

“Last night, they were gathering at the place, and before they could start their racing activity, my patrol team went there led by ASP Kushairy Bujang and rounded them up,” he told reporters when met today.

The youngsters were also issued summonses for various traffic offences.

He also said that apart from the SOP violation compounds, the youngsters were also issued summons for various traffic offences including riding without valid licenses.

In that respect, Stanley urged youngsters alike to be patient and continue to adhere to the MCO SOP.

He noted the “stress” the youngsters were going through not being able to go about activities as before the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Once people start to complain and see big crowd with no social distancing and masks on, the police have to take action.

“So please be patient. Everybody is going through the same thing, everybody is stressed out, but that is the only way we can stop the spread of the Covid-19 virus,” he said.
