KOTA KINABALU: Ten factories in Sabah, majority in Tawau, have been found to be operating with a workforce of beyond the permitted capacity of 60%.
State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the Sabah Covid-19 disaster management committee had ordered the random inspections in the manufacturing sector in Tawau and Lahad Datu from June 13 to June 23.
He said this was to ensure the SOPs, particularly concerning the 60% permitted workforce capacity, are heeded in the east coast.
“Following the spot checks, 10 out of 30 factories in Tawau had breached the rule on 60% operating capacity and were issued compound notices by the Health Ministry,” he said, in his daily Covid-19 statement on Saturday.
“Checks at 36 factories in Lahad Datu found all observing the rules except for one factory where four of its workers were fined for not wearing face masks at the workplace.”
Masidi reminded the manufacturing sector that they must do their part in following the regulations in order to avoid an outbreak.
The checks were jointly held by personnel from the state industrial development ministry, Tawau Municipal Council, Lahad Datu district council, police and the Health Department.
