RANAU: A 55-year-old man was killed after being buried for several hours when a landslide hit his home at Kampung Pinousuk here on Sunday afternoon.

The victim was identified as Junaidi Gangka.

Ranau police chief DSP Simiun Lomudin said the victim’s wife and two children however managed to escape without any serious injuries in the 3pm incident.

Police investigation revealed that the victim was in the kitchen with his family when loose soil and rocks from a hill came tumbling down onto their home.

“The wife and two children managed to escape on time, but unfortunately the victim was trapped in the debris.

“Villagers managed to locate the victim and pulled him out. He was immediately taken to Ranau hospital but was confirmed dead by doctors upon arrival,” said Simiun.

Simiun reminded villagers to be careful as authorities believed landslides may occur due to the weather condition.

The case has been classified as sudden death.
