SIBU (July 7): The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan is working to help register coffee shop operators for Covid-19 vaccination.

Branch member Hii Hiong Siu said this is part of an initiative by branch chairman Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew to help speed up the level of vaccination here.

“We want the vaccination to be done as quickly as possible for all coffee shops operators and their workers, so that we can open our shops for dine-in as soon as possible.

“We can see that the cases have started to come down due to the massive vaccination drive and we know that vaccination is our only way out of this; so I urge all coffee shops operators who have yet to register, to please register as soon as possible,” he told The Borneo Post.

Registration forms can be obtained by contacting Hii on 016-8901367.

According to him, all Sibujaya coffee shop operators and their workers had registered for Covid-19 vaccination.

The Sibu Coffee Shop and Restaurant Owners’ Association deputy officer of general affairs said he believes about 60 per cent of coffee shops operators here are already registered.

Hii said he spent several days visiting different coffee shops in town to encourage operators to sign up for inoculation.

“I met them and also tried to understand their problems, and see what we can do to help them,” he said.

Hii said Sibu Municipal Council’s (SMC) decision to require all eatery operators to be vaccinated in order to trade starting September is a good move.

“I support the council’s decision because we have experienced difficulties for the past one year or so and we honestly trade with fear because of Covid-19. None of us wants to get infected.

“However, the council must also help us to ensure that all coffee shop operators and their workers get vaccinated as soon as possible — we want to get it done quickly,” he added.
