KUCHING (June 14): Two new Covid-19 clusters have been declared by the State Health Department today, one of which resulted from a social gathering on the eve of Hari Gawai, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

It said in its Covid-19 daily update that this particular cluster, called the Sungai Sentebu Cluster, had resulted in 48 positive cases (including the index case) thus far and involved a locality in Sarikei which has been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

“This community cluster was traced back to a longhouse in Sungai Sentebu area and it was caused by social movements and gatherings on May 31,” it said.

It pointed out that 69 individuals have been screened where apart from the positive cases that have been detected, the remaining 21 individuals have tested negative.

“All positive cases have been admitted to Sarikei Hospital and the quarantine and low-risk patients treatment centre (PKRC) in Sarikei,” it added.

On the other cluster, SDMC said it is also a community cluster which involved a locality that has been placed under EMCO.

“A total of 12 positive cases (including the index case) have been detected from the Ulu Sangan Cluster.

“It was traced back to a longhouse in Ulu Sangan, Tatau and was the result of social movement and close contact among residents of the longhouse,” it said.

It said apart from the positive cases detected out of the 59 individuals who were screened, 47 are still pending lab test results.
