KOTA MARUDU: Police are investigating a viral statement on Facebook concerning a man who fled with a vehicle belonging to his fiancees sister.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Izaan Abdullah said that based on the report received from the 24-year-old female victim recently, the suspect also ran off with RM10,000 in cash belonging to her company.
Mohd Izaan said that based on early investigation, the suspect who is 28 years old was supposed to deposit the said cash into the victim’s account before the amount is transferred to the company account where she was working.
“However, the suspect allegedly gave various excuses and claimed that the transfer can only be done after 24 hours when he was asked for the receipt,” he said.
“Because of that, an argument allegedly broke out between the victim and the suspect, and the victim was allegedly beaten by the suspect,” he said when contacted on Wednesday.
Mohd Izaan said that the suspect allegedly drove off the vehicle towards Pitas together with the victim.
However, she jumped off the vehicle to save herself, he said.
Mohd Izaan said that the suspect was missing and efforts were being made to find him.
“The cash that disappeared is only RM10,000 and not RM18,000 as claimed on Facebook.
“The investigation is still ongoing under Section 379A of the Penal Code,” he said.
