KOTA KINABALU: No movement was detected to support the black democracy assembly at the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) building, Padang Merdeka and near the entrance of the State Istana in the state capital on Wednesday.

A survey found police from various branches carrying out strict surveillance at several areas believed to be designated places for the assembly.

More than 100 officers including police personnel from the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters (IPD) assisted by the Sabah police contingent from various branches started their duties as early as 6 am.

The Civil Riot Actions Unit (PORU) from the Special Actions Unit (PGA) Batallion 16 with 42 members were also at Padang Merdeka as preparation to curb any rioting incident.

Two officers and three members from the Drone Unit were also prepared to monitor from air any suspicious movement.

A two-minute and 40-second video was viralled featuring a masked individual who invited the people to gather at the EPF building and at the State Istana to object the implementation of the lockdown and the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali advised the people to avoid joining the assembly as it goes against the standard operating procedure of the MCO and action can be taken against perpetrators.
