KUCHING (Aug 22): A Parti Bersatu Bumiputera (PBB) veteran Dato Peter Minos is confident that the ninth Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will lead Malaysia well.

“We congratulate the new prime minister and we wish him well. With his long experience in the government, image and reputation of humility and understanding of the people, Ismail will lead the country well.

“But first is first. The current political turmoil and upheaval must cease.

Malaysians are sick and fed up of the highly negative politicking. It is now up to our new prime minister to bring about political sanity and normalcy as soon as possible,” he said in a statement yesterday.

“It is obvious that Ismail must pick up the mass immunisation exercise and continue the fight against our common enemy Covid-19 until it is is beaten and vanquished.

“With the pandemic hitting and killing Malaysians, it is very tough and trying to really do the economic recovery and revival but it must be done nevertheless. This is one big challenge for our new prime minister. We wish him the best,” said the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council chairman.

“We are not being pessimistic but with a very slim majority in parliament, the prime minister’s political rivals will not leave him alone. Sooner or later, they will undermine and sabotage him.

“They will give maybe one month’s peace at the most to the new prime minister. That is why, as soon as we achieve herd immunity of 80 per cent vaccination, a general election must be held to let the people decide.

“There will be political peace for Ismail only when he gets a commanding majority in parliament. Parliament can be dissolved in November, and after 60 days, polling could be held in January/February 2022.

“Let’s start with our new prime minister with a new year 2022 of hope, peace and joy in the political and economic fronts,” added Minos.
