KUCHING (Aug 11): A 31-year-old lorry driver has blamed his vehicle’s brakes for malfunctioning and causing a fatal accident at KM12 Jalan Sri Aman-Kuching around 9.30am today.

In a statement, Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu identified the deceased motorcyclist as Haderi Dee, 36.

“The deceased was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Sri Aman Hospital,” said Alexson.

He said pillion rider Clement Rogers, 27, sustained serious injuries in the accident and is being treated at Sri Aman Hospital.

Alexson said the lorry driver claimed that a car in front of him had stopped abruptly, causing him to slam on the brakes, which malfunctioned, and led him to swerve into the oncoming lane to avoid colliding with the car.

However, the move led to a head-on collision with Haderi’s motorcycle, which was heading towards Sri Aman.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Haderi’s body has since been transferred to the mortuary for a post-mortem.
