Chang holds up the book ‘Last Writings’ by her late husband.
SIBU (June 21): A book titled ‘Last Writings’ by former Bukit Assek assemblyman, the late Wong Ho Leng, is available for pre-order from today (June 21) via this link.
Incumbent Bukit Assek assemblywoman Irene Chang said the date was chosen to coincide with the seventh anniversary of her husband’s passing.
Wong passed away due to brain cancer on June 21, 2014.
Chang said she hoped the book will serve as an encouragement to those facing similar battles in their lives.
“The book (English version) has about 325 pages and is priced at RM45. The Mandarin version of the book will be coming out soon as well.
“The profits from the sales of the book will be set aside to exclusively serve and help the people not only from Bukit Assek state constituency, but for everyone especially Sibu folk,” she told a virtual press conference here yesterday.
Chang said the book was a diary written by Wong when he was diagnosed with a brain cancer on Dec 21, 2012.
“He had then decided to keep a diary as he wanted to record his journey. He recorded his thoughts, fears, struggles and most of all, his determination to fight cancer.
“He wanted to share this with people of Sarawak especially Sibu. This book was written entirely by him – we did not add in anything. Of course, we had to tidy up things like maybe people’s names, spellings, putting into proper sentences and all these sort of things, as sometimes he just used note form,” she said.
Adding on, Chang said the book’s entry was only up till Oct 2, 2013 as Wong had lost his sense of coordination and balance on Sept 18 that year.
She also said the second part of the book would be coming out as well, but could not give a timeline as to when.
“Part two will be the records from Oct 2, 2013 till his passing on June 21, 2014. This will be done by all of us (family) together. So the second part will even be more emotional because that was the time he was comatose already.
“We will be recalling our experience with Ho Leng, the difficult times he went through especially the time (seeking treatment) in Singapore and his final days in Sibu.”
