KUCHING (June 6): A funeral held in Ulu Sebakong, Mukah from May 19 to 21 last month has sparked Sarawak’s latest Covid-19 cluster, dubbed the Ulu Sebakong Cluster, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

The committee said that the community cluster is the only new cluster announced in the state today and 50 infections have been detected from it.

“A total of seven cases related to the cluster are still awaiting laboratory results,” it said in its Covid-19 daily update.

All 50 positive cases were referred to the Sibu Hospital and admitted to the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Mukah.

SDMC said the State Health Department has declared the end to five clusters in the state namely the Ulu Balingian Cluster in Selangau, Sungai Rian Cluster in Meradong, Sungai Lemayong Cluster in Meradong and Sungai Senibung Cluster in Julau.

76 active clusters remain in the state, with 11 clusters recording a total of 32 new cases.

Meanwhile, SDMC said that there are currently 28 Covid-19 red zones, four orange zones and eight yellow zones in the state.

No Covid-19 green zones remain after Telang Usan lost the battle against Covid-19 yesterday and recorded nine cases in the last 14 days.

The Health Ministry classifies districts with more than 40 cases in a two-week period as red zones, 21 to 40 cases as orange zones, one to 20 cases as yellow zones and those with no cases as green zones.
