KUCHING (Aug 5): Sarawak’s Covid-19 cases shot up to 759 today with more than half recorded in Kuching and Subis, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
The committee said in its Covid-19 daily update that the state also recorded two deaths today, bringing its death toll to 466.
Kuching and Subis both recorded three-digit cases at 330 and 160 respectively.
There were also 24 other districts which registered new cases namely Serian with 70 cases, Samarahan (36), Sibu (23), Bau (21), Tatau (18), Kabong (17), Lundu (14), Beluru (10), Bintulu (8), Betong (7), Miri (7), Simunjan (7), Asajaya (6), Sebauh (5), Dalat (4), Meradong (4), Sri Aman (3), Saratok (2), Selangau (2), and one each in Mukah, Kapit, Sarikei, Tanjung Manis and Tebedu, SDMC said.
The state’s cumulative number of Covid-19 cases now stands at 79,522.
The committee said the new cases today consisted of 259 cases which were detected from screenings of individuals with contact to positive cases; 261 from screenings of individuals from existing active clusters; 176 from other screenings at health facilities; and 58 from screenings of symptomatic individuals at health facilities.
There were also two Import A cases involving individuals who had returned or entered from Indonesia (3) and Myanmar (1) and an Import B case where the individual had returned from Selangor, SDMC added.
Meanwhile, SDMC said the 465th death was a 48-year-old woman from Bintulu who tested positive on June 11.
She had comorbidities of diabetes and obesity. She passed away at Bintulu Hospital, the committee said.
The 466th fatality involved a 61-year-old man from Miri, who was brought-in-dead to Sibu Hospital. He was tested positive on July 26.
He had no history of comorbidities.
Meanwhile, a total of 313 recovered Covid-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals and quarantine and low-risk patients treatment centres (PKRC) across the state.
SDMC said 114 were discharged from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and PKRC under SGH; 39 from Miri Hospital and PKRC under Miri Hospital; 39 from PKRC Serian; 29 from Sarikei Hospital and the PKRC under Sarikei Hospital; 28 from PKRC Unimas; 23 from Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC under Sri Aman Hospital; 14 from PKRC Mukah; 10 from PKRC Betong; nine from Sibu Hospital and the PKRC under Sibu Hospital; four from Kapit Hospital and the PKRC under Kapit Hospital; three from Bintulu Hospital and the PKRC under Bintulu Hospital; and one from PKRC Lawas.
The total number of recoveries in the state have now increased to 71,991 or 90.53 per cent out of the overall cases, SDMC said.
It also said that 6,886 patients were still warded and under medical supervision at hospitals and PKRCs throughout the state, where 4,058 were being treated at SGH and PKRC Kuching; 616 at PKRC Serian; 585 at PKRC Unimas; 522 at Miri Hospital and PKRC Miri; 333 at Sibu Hospital and PKRC Sibu; 315 at Bintulu Hospital and PKRC Bintulu; 178 at PKRC Betong; 91 at Sarikei Hospital and PKRC Sarikei; 86 at PKRC Mukah; 63 at Sri Aman Hospital; 30 at Kapit Hospital and PKRC Kapit; eight at PKRC Lawas; and one at Limbang Hospital.
