Covid-19: Kapit becomes red zone, only two green zones remain in Sarawak

KUCHING (Aug 25): Kapit today has been classified as a red zone district after recording 45 local Covid-19 transmissions in the past two weeks, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

According to the committee, 16 of the local transmission were new cases recorded today.

Limbang District meanwhile was classified as yellow zone from green after recording one local transmission today.

This brought the total number of red zone districts in the state to 25, orange zones five, yellows zones eight and green zones two, said SDMC in a statement today.

The other red zone districts were Pakan, Kanowit, Song, Belaga, Pusa, Betong, Tebedu, Dalat, Selangau, Sri Aman, Asajaya, Subis, Mukah, Simunjan, Tatau, Lundu, Saratok, Bau, Samarahan, Serian, Kuching, Bintulu, Miri and Sibu which recorded a total of 19,103 local Covid-19 transmissions in the last 14 days.

The orange zone districts were Sarikei, Lubok Antu, Kabong, Sebauh and Beluru with a total of 142 local transmissions over the same period.

The other yellow zone districts were Matu, Daro, Meradong, Bukit Mabong, Telang Usan, Julau and Lawas with a total of 43 local transmissions.

Tanjung Manis and Marudi districts remained as green zone districts.

The Health Ministry categorises a district with no Covid-19 cases as a green zone, and over a two-week period, with one to 20 local transmission cases as yellow, 21 to 40 as orange and 41 and more as red.

Meanwhile, the Sarawak police have issued nine compounds for violations of standard operating procedures (SOP) since yesterday, where six were in Kuching, two in Bintulu and one in Padawan.

The offences were not scanning MySejahtera/writing personal information before entering premises (5) and not wearing face mask (4).

SDMC said the total number of compounds issued by the police since the Movement Control Order was implemented in March 18, 2020 to date was 10,152.
