While you can use Spotify to stream music, you will need a separate media player to play tracks on your phone. This may soon change, at least for Android users of the streaming service’s app. The company appears to be adding support for the playback of local tracks on the Google mobile operating system.
The discovery was made by app reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong. The option to do so appears to be a very simple one. When it becomes available, you’ll just have to look for a toggle that allows the app to “show all audio files on your device in Your Library” under Settings.

For most users, this was a feature that was exclusive to the PC version of Spotify. And for the most part, this is good news for Android users of the app. But it looks like some German users have had the feature for quite some time.
At any rate, it’s safe to say that the rest of the Android Spotify userbase will also be getting the feature. The only question that remains is when will the ability to play on-device tracks go live. Things are even more uncertain for iOS users, as Wong says she’s not aware of it being implemented on the platform yet.
