AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX Mobile CPU Leaks With 4.59GHz Boost Clock; Could Support Overclocking

There is no denying AMD’s Ryzen 4000 Mobile series of CPUs were the sleeper hit of this godforsaken year, with the ASUS Zephyrus G14 and its Ryzen 9 4900HS we reviewed bearing testament to the fact. Recently, a new unannounced Ryzen Mobile CPU made its way online, and its specification sounds fairly exciting.

The Ryzen Mobile CPU in this instance is reportedly a Ryzen 9 5900HX, and according to the Thailand-based leakster, APISAK (@TUM_APISAK), the CPU is a follow-up to the 4900HS and is expected to be based on AMD’s “Cezanne” Zen 3 CPU architecture. The CPU was first discovered within an ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX551QS and features an 8-cores, 16-threads die with up to 16MB of L3 Cache. Also, because it is a H-series CPU, it is expected to have a TDP of 45W.

What is even more interesting is that the “HX” moniker at the end of its name suggests that the 5900HX may come with support for overclocking, making it similar to Intel’s own HK-series mobile CPUs.

Beyond that, there’s no additional information about the CPU, only that it will have a base and boost clock of 3.3GHz and 4.6GHz, respectively. Performance-wise, a screenshot from Geekbench points towards a single-core score of 1423 and multi-core score of 6912.

News about AMD’s Ryzen 5000 Mobile series CPUs first headway back in October, almost immediately after the launch of its desktop counterparts. Oddly enough, while the new CPUs would be based on its Zen 3 “Cezanne” architecture, it was also reported that the company would be slipping in some Zen 2 architecture Ryzen CPUs, codenamed “Lucienne”.

In any case, there is still no official confirmation from AMD, so as usual, take this news with a grain of salt.
