Covid-19: Sarawak records two deaths as new cases spike to 2,024

KUCHING (Aug 26): Sarawak recorded the second highest daily Covid-19 cases today at 2,024, along with two deaths, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

The highest record was on Aug 20 with 2,548 cases.

According to SDMC, about 40 per cent or 848 of the new cases today were in Kuching, followed by Samarahan (200), Serian (198) and Sibu (161).

This brought the state’s cumulative cases to 105,072 and death toll to 510, the committee said in its daily update on the pandemic.

Out of the new cases today, 99.85 per cent or 2.021 cases were patients under Category 1 and 2 involving asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic patients respectively, said SDMC.

One case in Category 4 with lung disease and required oxygen support; and two cases in Category 5 with lung infections and requiring ventilator support, the committee added.

The 509th death was a 78-year-old man who was tested positive for Covid-19 on Aug 24. SDMC said he had no comorbidities.

The 510th death was of a 85-year-old woman who was tested positive on Aug 22. She had a history of high blood pressure, diabetes and dyslipidaemia.

Both were from Kuching, and had passed away at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
