KOTA KINABALU (Aug 23): A total of 102,352 units of laptops have been handed over to students from 805 schools under 141 district education offices nationwide through the Cerdik initiative as of Aug 14, this year, said the federal MInistry of Finance (MOF).
In a statement today, the MOF stated that 3,858 units of laptops are still in the process of being distributed to the schools, whereas the remaining 43,790 units are expected to be handed over to the recipients latest by the end of September this year.
The ministry stressed that the government is serious and concerned about the challenges faced by the students in learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The ministry said that today in response to a statement by Democratic Action Party (DAP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Kota Kinabalu Chan Foong Hin who sought clarification from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) federal government whether the 150,000 laptops promised last year during the Budget 2021 announcement have been completely distributed to students in need throughout the country.
Chan said the federal government has announced an allocation of up to RM150 million to give students across the country 150,000 laptops through the Cerdik initiative for online learning for students from low-income families under Budget 2021.
