Raw water extraction resumes at Sibu plants, gradual return of water pressure expected

SIBU (Aug 23): Raw water extraction has resumed as usual at the Salim Treatment Plant and Bukit Lima Treatment Plant, after the process was halted early this morning due to the high silt content of water from the upper reaches of Baleh River.

In a press release, Sibu Water Board (SWB) said water pressure is anticipated recover gradually, as both plants had operated on minimum capacity earlier today.

“We have resolved to stop raw water extraction at Salim Treatment Plant and Bukit Lima Treatment Plant today at 3.15am and 3.26am respectively. However, our raw water extraction resumed as usual at Salim Treatment Plant and Bukit Lima Treatment Plant at 6.50am and 7.55am respectively, today.

“The water pressure is anticipated to be recovered gradually. We are still monitoring the situation and will keep our customers updated,” SWB said.

The board also apologised for any inconvenience caused.
