MIRI (Aug 23): Two primary schools in Baram were flooded following heavy rain since yesterday morning.

Zone 6 Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Law Poh Kiong said the Baram District Education Office reported that all pupils of SK Long Wat and SK Long Atip were at their villages, while only a few teachers and support staff were at both schools during the floods which occurred at around 7pm.

“Water levels at SK Long Wat have risen slowly since Sunday morning and have resulted in flooding in several areas including school field, cement walkways to the school, two units of teachers’ quarters and the foot of a well water pump house at a depth of 1.5 feet.

“Meanwhile, the water level at SK Long Atip has been submerged at a depth of 1 feet, below the school block from the ditch by the school block, school field and teachers’ barracks and is reported to be rising,” said Law.

No evacuation has been made as of yesterday evening, he added.
