Desa Senadin man fined RM600 for falsely reporting car was stolen

MIRI (Aug 11): A Magistrates’ Court here today fined a 42-year-old man RM600 in default three weeks in jail for making a false police report.

Ting Ing Heing from Taman Desa Senadin paid the fine.

Magistrate Md Syafique Md Hilmie convicted Ting on his own guilty plea.

He was charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to six months in prison, or with a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, Ting was found to have lodged a false police report to Cpl Spencer Pelatus by hiding the fact that his car was not stolen but taken by a workshop because he failed to pay its repair costs.

He committed the offence on April 24, 2021 at around 2.28pm at the Miri Central police station information counter.

Insp Mudzilawati Abdul Rahman prosecuted the case, while the accused was unrepresented by counsel.
