Covid-19: Malaysia reaches new record of 9,180 cases, Sarawak’s cases jump to 406

KUCHING (July 9): Malaysia recorded a new high of 9,180 new Covid-19 cases today, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In a Facebook post, Dr Noor Hisham said the last time Malaysia surpassed the 9,000 mark of daily cases was on May 29, when the country recorded 9,020 cases.

“This brings the cumulative total of positive cases nationwide to 817,838,” he said.

New cases in Sarawak also jumped to 406 today — the fifth highest number in the country.

This followed three days of reporting over 280 cases with 281 cases yesterday, 289 cases on Wednesday, and 286 cases on Tuesday.

Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor continued to account for most of the cases in the country with 4,400 reported today.

This was followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,271), Negeri Sembilan (899), and Kedah (417).

Other states and territories reporting three-digit figures today were Sabah (323), Johor (315), Perak (241), Melaka (222), Pahang (214), Kelantan (151), and Penang (142).

New cases were also reported in Terengganu (82), Labuan (80), Putrajaya (16), and Perlis (1).
