Sarawak’s new Covid-19 cases remain below 300 for 3rd day in a row with four deaths today

KUCHING (July 8): Sarawak continue to record less than 300 new Covid-19 cases for three days in a row with 281 today, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

It said in in a statement that the state also recorded four death today, bringing the death toll to 428.

“Kuching recorded the most cases at 57 but nevertheless, the latest figure was a drop from 64 cases yesterday.

“Seven districts also recorded two-digit cases namely Sri Aman (52), Sibu (40), Mukah (18), Bintulu (17), Samarahan (15), Telang Usan (14), and Kapit (11),” said SDMC.

Districts which reported single-digit cases were Serian (8), Miri (7), Bau (6), Subis (4), Sarikei (4), Meradong (3), Kanowit (3), Bukit Mabong (3), Tatau (3), Lundu (2), Dalat (2), Betong (2), Sebauh (2), Selangau (2), Matu (2), and one case each in Asajaya, Tebedu, Pakan and Song.

The state’s cumulative number of cases in the state to 67,560 now stands at 67,841.

The committee said the new cases today consisted of 185 cases which were detected from screenings of individuals with contact to positive cases; 31 from screenings of individuals from existing active clusters; 41 from other screenings at health facilities; and 16 from screenings of symptomatic individuals at health facilities.

“There were also two Import A cases involving individuals who had returned from Indonesia and two Import B cases where the individuals had returned from Selangor,” it said.

On the fatalities, it said three of the death cases were recorded in Miri while the other case had died in Sibu.

“In Miri, one of the death cases is linked to the Quadruplex Lapan Enam Cluster. It involved a 71-year-old woman with a history of high blood pressure, diabetes and dyslipidemia, who had tested positive on June 28.

“The two other victims in Miri were a 63-year-old man and 79-year-old woman who had tested positive on July 1 and 4 respectively.

“The female victim had high blood pressure, dyslipidemia and cancer while the man had no history of comorbidities,” it said.

On the death case in Sibu, it said a 59-year-old man was the state’s 428th Covid-19 related fatality.

“The victim, who had high blood pressure, diabetes and asthma, tested positive for Covid-19 on June 28,” it added.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients today greatly exceeded new infection cases with 426 allowed to be discharged from hospitals and quarantine and low-risk patients treatment centres (PKRC) across the state.

SDMC said 123 were discharged from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and PKRC under SGH; 85 were discharged from Miri Hospital and PKRC under Miri Hospital; 68 from Sibu Hospital and the PKRC under Sibu Hospital; 44 from Kapit Hospital and PKRC under Kapit Hospital; 29 from Bintulu Hospital and the PKRC under Bintulu Hospital; 23 from PKRC Mukah; 21 from Sarikei Hospital and the PKRC under Sarikei Hospital; 15 from PKRC Serian; five from Limbang Hospital; six from Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC Sri Aman; four from PKRC Betong and three from PKRC Lawas.

“The total number of recoveries in the state have now increased to 57,498 or 84.75 per cent out of the overall cases,” said the committee.

It also said that 9,758 patients were still warded and under medical supervision at hospitals and PKRCs throughout the state, where 3,161 were being treated at SGH; 2,006 at Sibu Hospital and PKRC Sibu; 1,407 at Miri Hospital; 1,015 at Bintulu Hospital; 810 at Kapit Hospital and PKRC Kapit; 369 at Sri Aman Hospital; 338 at Sarikei Hospital; 217 at PKRC Serian; 192 at PKRC Betong; 174 at PKRC Mukah; 59 at PKRC Semuja; and 10 at PKRC Lawas.
