KUCHING (July 8): The Sessions Court here yesterday sentenced a 20-year-old mechanic to the Henry Gurney School, Puncak Borneo after he was found guilty of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to his wife in May this year.
Aidil Fiqrie Abdullah, who pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 325 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 326A of the Code, will serve his sentence at the school until the age of 21.
According to the charge sheet, the accused assaulted his 27-year-old wife at their residence in Jalan Sultan Tengah here around 12.30am on May 4.
It was revealed that the accused lost his temper at that material time after being told by his wife to stop asking her for money.
During the proceeding, a social report submitted by the Welfare Department recommended the accused undergo ‘Compulsory Attendance Order’ as an alternative to imprisonment.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurfadzlin Mahmad Zulhasnan objected to the recommendation on the grounds of the seriousness of the offence, trauma suffered by the victim, and public interest.
The DPP also applied to the court to take into account the facts of the case as well as the injuries sustained by the victim.
Judge Jason Juga presided over the case while the accused was not represented.
