KOTA KINABALU: The State Government has received a donation of more than 500,000 face masks from Sabah China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) and FJ Manjung Sdn Bhd to help curb the spread of Covid-19 in Sabah.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor received the contribution on behalf of the State Government from SCCC president Datuk Frankie Liew and FJ Manjung Sdn Bhd financial director Lee Jack Son at the Sabah State Administrative Centre here on Tuesday.
FJ Manjung has donated 500,000 face masks, whereas SCCC contributed 16,000 pieces, 200 bottles of 60-millilitre hand sanitizer, 282 bottles of 500ml hand sanitizer, 20 thermometres, 20 handphone UV sanitizers and 80 safety goggles.
“The State Government wishes to express our appreciation and gratitude to SCCC and FJ Manjung for the donations and assistance given to the state to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The donations will be distributed to all districts through the chairmen of the district-level Covid-19 Disaster Management Committee.
“We hope the (Covid-19) cases will decrease for the economy to recover.”
Also present were Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir, SCCC deputy president Dato’ Soh Poh Soon, vice presidents Datuk Kevin Lim and Chiew Heng Hock and secretary general Tan Kok Jyh.
SCCC also briefed Hajiji on the joint ventures between Kota Kinabalu and sister cities in China, as well as efforts that would be taken to promote business and trade between SCCC and China investors.
Frankie said the donation reflected the concern of SCCC towards the wellbeing of the people in the state and he hoped that the Covid-19 cases could be reduced or put under control for lives to return to normalcy.
