KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 225 new positive Covid-19 cases and a death in Tawau on Tuesday.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun said a new cluster, named Agora Borneo Cluster, that involved Covid-19 transmissions at Bataras Hypermarket in 1Borneo Hypermall was identified.
He said the index case was a 24-year-old female sales assistant from Kg Lokub, Kota Kinabalu, who tested positive on June 30 after experiencing symptoms for the last 10 days.
Masidi, who is also Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson, said 133 samples were collected among her close contacts, 26 of which were positive including 17 new cases on Tuesday.
He added that 57 samples were negative and another 50 samples were pending results.
“Based on preliminary investigation, the virus is believed to have spread in the workplace and to the second generation, namely family members.”
On the daily statistics, Masidi said Kota Kinabalu registered the highest increase of infections with 70 cases.
He said Agora Borneo Cluster and Jalan Kayu Madang Cluster contributed 17 cases and one case respectively in the state capital.
The remaining cases in Kota Kinabalu were detected through targeted screenings (35), close contact screenings (12), symptomatic screening (3) and other screening (2).
As for Beaufort, Masidi said the new cases were reported from close contact screening (22), targeted screening (34) and symptomatic screening (1).
Meanwhile, Beaufort recorded 57 cases, followed by Tawau (21), Putatan (18) and Penampang (12).
On the other hand, Masidi said 199 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from hospital or recovered, whereas 1,672 patients were still undergoing treatment.
