Padawan man arrested for faking snatching to buy groceries with boss’ cash

KUCHING (June 30): Police arrested a 25-year-old man after he admitted lodging a false police report on Monday (June 28) claiming snatchers on a motorcycle grabbed his bag at MJC Batu Kawah.

Padawan police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, who confirmed the man was arrested on the same day, said he had actually spent the money on groceries.

“In his police report, the suspect claimed that he had lost his employer’s money totalling RM3,600 to the thieves,” Aidil said in a statement today.

However, all was uncovered when police started to interview the suspect for further details of the crime.

It was also revealed that the missing money was actually winnings from online gambling.

The suspect from Jalan Batu Kitang is currently on police bail and is being investigated under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and Section 182 of the Penal Code.

In an unrelated case, a 36-year-old man was arrested for allegedly selling online gambling top-ups at a premises in Taman Sungai Tengah Valley, Jalan Matang around 3.30pm yesterday (June 29).

During the arrest, the police also seized a mobile phone, RM371, and a piece of paper listing login details and passwords to access online gambling websites.
