MIRI (June 29): A Magistrates’ Court here today remanded a total of six suspects, one of whom is a woman, for seven days until July 6 to assist with the investigation of two separate drug trafficking cases.
Senior Assistant Registrar Eleanor Mako Timothy issued the order after allowing two remand applications by investigating officer Insp Liew Wai Leong.
In his application, Liew said acting on information, a Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) team from the Sarawak police contingent headquarters led by Insp Thomas Untol ambushed a house at Jalan Acacia 3, Shang Garden here yesterday (June 28) at around 4pm.
The first suspect, aged 36, was arrested inside a saloon car in front of the house.
The second suspect, aged 30, was nabbed inside the house.
During their arrest, the raiding team confiscated five plastic packets containing a crystalline substance suspected to be syabu weighing 4.624kg (gross weight), which was handed over to the police by one of the suspects.
Both suspects were brought in to facilitate the police investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In the second case, Liew said the NCID team ambushed a house at Jalan Kiambang 6, Tudan around 5pm for suspected involvement in drug activities.
The raiding team detained a man at the front gate of the house and then proceeded to a hut at the back of the house, where they arrested a man and a woman.
One of the suspects voluntarily handed over a bag containing crystalline substances suspected to be syabu weighing 50.02 grams.
The fourth suspect, who is the owner of the house, was also apprehended during the ambush.
Police are also investigating the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
