13 arrested in Serian for alleged involvement in illegal cockfighting, flouting MCO SOP

SERIAN (June 29): Police have arrested 13 local men for allegedly being involved in illegal cockfighting during a raid at Jalan Tamba No.1, here yesterday.

Serian district police chief DSP Aswandy Anis said the group of men, aged between 30 and 63, fled as soon as they realised the presence of the raiding team led by ASP Murad Jemari at around 5.05 pm.

“It was found that a group of men gathered in an open area on the road suspected of being involved in cockfighting.

“As soon as they realised the presence of the police, they fled but police managed to arrest 13 of them,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He added that all of the suspects were taken back to the Serian Police Station and investigated under Section 3(1) of Cruelty to Animals Act 1962.

“All of the individuals arrested were also compounded for flouting the Movement Control Order (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOP),” he said.
