KUCHING (June 26): Mom’s Laksa has joined the ranks for “Sharing is Caring” free packed lunch campaign initiated by the Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association (Sheda) Kuching Branch, with two of its outlets being used as collection points for the meals.
The outlets located at Jalan Semarak and Jalan Astana here have offered a total of 300 food packs daily on a first-come-first-served basis since yesterday.
The initiative which started on June 18 to June 24 was further extended to June 28 to help more needy people, said Sheda Kuching Branch chairman Sim Kiang Chiok when met at Mom’s Laksa Jalan Semarak outlet today.
“Previously the food packs were available at five outlets of Premier Food Republic located at RH Plaza BDC, RH Park 9th Mile, Tabuan Tranquility, Emart Batu Kawa and Samarahan with a total of 300 packs daily. With Mom’s Laksa, we have covered both Kuching North and Kuching South areas, and Samarahan, giving out a total of 600 packs daily until June 28,” said Sim.
“We hope to cover as much of Kuching as we can, and hopefully nobody goes hungry,” he added.
He said that he has seen similar food distribution on Facebook by associations and individuals, and hopes more non-government organisations (NGOs) will come out to do this.
This meal aid 2.0 is sponsored by Sheda members Sinar Mekar Properties, Petra Jaya Properties, Hock Peng Realty, Oricon, Benta Mewah, Kenbest Sdn Bhd and generous anonymous donors.
Aside from the meals, the recipients also received face masks donated by Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.
On another note, Sim also expressed his concerns about the further extension of the Movement Control Order (MCO).
Should the MCO be extended, he said he will look into providing the free pack lunch again.
“The government’s food aid, assistance like Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat, Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang will be disbursed in July, so maybe it will be ok. See how it goes,” he said.
The MCO has been implemented in the state from May 29 to June 11, and was extended until June 28 .
